Maximising value from Municipal Solid Waste (MSW)

Municipal Solid Waste (also known as “household waste") is a waste stream that consists of everyday consumable items that are discarded.

This general residual waste is normally put into a black bag or bin and contains a mixture of wet and dry recyclables, organic, inorganic and biodegradable materials. This includes food waste, containers, cans, cartons, product packaging, newspapers and card.

The Kiverco Municipal Solid Waste Solution.

Kiverco specialise in the Mechanical Treatment of waste as part of an MBT plant (Mechanical Biological Treatment). We divert Municipal Household Waste from landfill, recovering as many recyclable materials as possible before drying and shredding the remaining light materials to make a Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF). Organic materials are generally sent for conversion to heat and electricity or to create a compost like output.

Robust design and engineering and maximum material recovery

Kiverco’s state of the art MSW MRFs (sometimes referred to as dirty MRFs) utilise the latest in bag opening, shredding, screen, air, magnetic, ballistic, optical and baling technology. This allows operators to efficiently separate and sort a wide variety of material types achieving the purest end product while maintaining maximum output and reducing landfill.

What products can be recovered?

MSW products which can be recovered include ferrous metals, non-ferrous metals, plastics, film, paper, card and organics.

Where do the recovered products go?

Once retrieved recyclable products are normally baled and transferred for onward closed loop recycling. Residual waste is shredded for use as a Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF). The remaining organic fraction is utilised to convert gas to heat and electricity and can also be used toproduce a compost like output.
